xcaped rating system
The xcaped rating system is the method used to rate escape rooms on the platform xcaped. It consists of seven categories, each rated on a scale from 1 to 5.
The category values form an overall score. How reliable that score is depends on the number of ratings submitted, and this is stated on every room.
The system is not an open star rating. Ratings come from registered reviewers who apply the same categories to every room.

Categories of the xcaped rating system
Every rating covers the same seven categories:
- Puzzle quality
- Room design
- Immersion and atmosphere
- Story
- Fun factor
- Game mastering and acting
- Originality
Board games follow a separate catalogue, also with seven categories, including game mechanics, production quality and difficulty.
How reliable an xcaped score is
A score based on a single rating is marked as an initial assessment. Each further rating increases its reliability; from several independent ratings onwards it counts as a team score.
The xcaped Award marks rooms with a particularly high score. A separate xcaped Community Award is based on community ratings. Both are awarded by xcaped itself.
What the xcaped rating system is not
It is not a star rating open to any visitor. Ratings come from registered reviewers who have played the room.
It is not TERPECA. TERPECA is an international audience award with its own voting process. xcaped shows TERPECA nominations — currently on 104 rooms — but does not award them.
It is not an endorsement paid for by venues. Venues have no influence on category values, score or review text.
